Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) has won the 2020 Future Digital Awards Technology. The Mitsubishi Road Assist+ smartphone app took first place in the Technology & Innovation Category.
Juniper Research established the Future Digital Awards in 2008 which recognises companies that deliver imaginative and innovative products or services. It looks specifically at those with the potential to disrupt their industry while providing incredible benefits to their consumers.
The Technology & Innovation category acknowledges innovation in different forms. From smart devices and smart Cities to the connected home, Automotive & Telematics and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The Award-Winning Mitsubishi Road Assist+ App
The Mitsubishi Road Assist+ app was built in partnership with technology firm LexisNexis Risk Solutions. This app gives users access to usage-based insurance even if their vehicle is not fitted with the required connectivity and telematics solutions. It is the very first smartphone app without any hardware made by an automaker offering this particular benefit.
Using the GPS on your smartphone, the Mitsubishi app monitors your driving habits and informs you about any areas that may need improvement. It also provides auto insurance quotes and exclusive Mitsubishi offers which all help you save money in the long run.
The app is also useful if you lose your keys, run out of fuel or get a flat tyre as 24/7 roadside assistance is there to help. You can even request that the app matches a knowledgeable service technician to your location who will then be able to resolve your particular issue.
This digital service helps Mitsubishi explore valuable insights based on consumer behaviour to aid in the innovation process of driver assistance systems among others.
What Does Mitsubishi Roadside Assistance Include?
Roadside Assistance is a service offered by many companies, including Mitsubishi, which helps you get back on the road after a mechanical breakdown, flat tyre or another vehicle-related issue.
For Mitsubishi customers in South Africa, this service is included in most plans and policies sold through Mitsubishi Financial Services. Here’s what you get:
- tow-in service to a nearest approved facility for repairs
- fuel delivery to reach the closest petrol station
- jump-start service
- key lock-out service which includes sending a locksmith to open your car and get your key
- accommodation option for one night for the driver and up to 3 passengers (you must arrange the accommodation and the refund is a maximum of R500)
- car hire is also available with a refund up to a maximum of R500
