Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Is Style, Luxury and Performance

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport looks incredibly stylish, luxurious and ready for anything. Redesigned and re-engineered, this automotive masterpiece offers the latest state-of-the-art technology, added safety, and convenience features. One important aspect that has not changed is the asking price in spite of all the upgrades. Customers loyal to the 12-time Dakar winning brand can now get the new Pajero Sport at the same price when it first launched in August 2017.

According to Nic Campbell, General Manager at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa, “We continuously conduct market research to determine how the Mitsubishi Motors designers and engineers could improve the driving experience of our range of vehicles, hence strengthening our already loyal customer base. This keeps Mitsubishi Motors at the forefront of innovation and cutting-edge technology. This kind of forward thinking and moving will ensure that Mitsubishi Motors remains progressive.”

Engine Specification and Performance

With nearly identical specs, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is available in two options, a 4×2 or 4×4. Both have a powerful and incredibly responsive 2.4L MIVEC Turbo Diesel Engine producing 133 kW at 3 500 rpm and 430 Nm of torque at 2 500 rpm. A state-art-of-art 8-speed Automatic Transmission with Intelligent Shift Control drives the wheels in comfort and style. It doesn’t struggle to find the right gear ratio and the advanced powertrain contributes greatly to a quieter ride, especially when cruising.

Unlike other SUVs still using rear leaf-spring suspensions or similar systems, Mitsubishi’s multilink-with-stabiliser setup rolls over bumps and uneven tarred roads like they’re smooth as silk. In addition, the 2.4 D4 has a predictable body roll resulting in a more settled ride and instills driver confidence in the vehicle’s handling ability.

Speaking of handling, the Pajero Sport 4×4 is fitted with the latest version of Mitsubishi’s unique Super Select II 4WD system. It offers four different drive modes with a class-leading Hill-Descent Control system for added safety when traversing dangerous terrain.

If that’s enough, Electronic Off-road Assistance is also available allowing even better off-road performance. It’s as simple as selecting the Gravel, Mud/Snow or Sand mode in 4HLc to suit specific surface conditions. At the same time, it optimises engine output, transmission settings and braking for superior traction. The added Rock setting is for taking on extreme off-road conditions and can be engaged in 4LLc. And for those who like to use their vehicles for towing, the rating on the 4×2 has now been increased to 2 700 kg while the 4×4 derivative can now tow a trailer or caravan up to 2 790 kg.

“Pajero Sport is known for its supreme maneuverability and a class-leading turning circle for tight urban parking spots and adventurous off-road driving,” says Campbell.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Safety Features

Mitsubishi Motors is a trusted brand that prides themselves on providing progressive, robust, reliable and safe products. The new Pajero Sport is no exception as it comes fitted with all the features one would expect from a leading car manufacturer. This includes Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) with Brake Assist (BAS/EBA), Traction and Stability Control.

Keeping in line with their high safety and design standard, among other added features, the Pajero Sport now includes a total of 7 airbags (driver, front passenger, driver’s knee, front side, and curtain airbags).

Interior and Exterior

Standout exterior features include stylish xenon headlights, a rear spoiler, roof rails, and titanium-like 18-inch alloy wheels. LED daytime running lights, auto-folding electrically-adjustable side mirrors with integrated indicators make up the rest.

On the inside, you get leather trim with an electrically adjustable driver seat, a multifunction steering wheel (audio and cruise control), Bluetooth with hands-free voice control, automatic dual climate control with rear outlets for all the passengers in the rear. A touchscreen infotainment system includes navigation, radio/CD/USB player, electric windows, keyless entry with start/stop button.

Furthermore, the Pajero Sport comes standard with automatically activated lights and wipers, rear park distance control and a reverse-view camera. Another added feature is the 120 Watt Power Plug, which is particularly useful for charging electronic devices on-the-go or while exploring the great outdoors.

Pricing starts at R569 995 for the 4×2 8-speed A/T with Intelligent Shift Control and R619 995 for the 4×4 featuring Mitsubishi’s unique Super Select II 4WD system with electronic Off-road Assistance. Both models are covered by a 3-year / 100 000 km manufacturer’s warranty and a 5-year / 90 000 km service plan with 10 000 km service intervals.

The South African public has been waiting patiently for the well-respected and much-loved SUV, especially those with a sense of adventure and enjoy traveling. It is very likely that the new Pajero Sport will claim top spot as the SUV flagship in the already impressive Mitsubishi Motors collection.
