The Mitsubishi Brand – A Brief History

Originally founded in 1870 as a shipping firm, Mitsubishi only started manufacturing cars from 1917. The first automobile ever built was based on a Fiat design (the Tipo 3) and was named the Mitsubishi Model A, but due to the excessive costs of manufacturing them all by hand, only 22 were ever built.

Then in 1934 everything changed for Mitsubishi, as it merged it automotive, shipping and aircraft manufacturing capabilities into 1 company – Mitsubishi Heavy Industries!
