Mitsubishi Mirage – Fun To Drive, Easy On The Pocket

2020 Mitsubishi Mirage

Mitsubishi’s 2020 Mirage

Mitsubishi in South Africa is known for its tough bakkies and comprehensive range of SUVs. Pity there is nothing for the more budget-conscious Mitsubishi fans. Wait! Until three-four years ago there was the Mirage, an easy on the pocket, sub-compact that hit the sweet spot for students and empty-nesters alike. So now, soon on our shores, the new, updated Mitsubishi Mirage.

This Mitsubishi has been around in various forms and guises since the late ‘70s, at times called the Colt or the Lancer.

It is always difficult to peg a new or relaunched car in a bracket, but the new Mirage would seem to fit somewhere between the Chevy Spark and the Hyundai Accent. It will be available as a hatch or a sedan. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine will push its 58kW through either a 5-speed manual or smooth CVT transmission. Fuel consumption is around 15/17km/litre.

If the Mirage has a mission statement, it would be an excellent price, low running costs and extremely fun to drive. The Mirage will be a looker as well, sharper and more dynamic exterior lines and a more elegant interior. The nose sports the now-familiar Dynamic Shield front design with square grille lines. Multi-bulb LED lights are complemented by fog lights in the bumper corners.

The Mirage will come standard with Smartphone Display Audio system featuring a really top 7-inch display automatic climate control. Top range models will feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, 15-inch alloy wheels in a black finish and red interior accents.

The Mitsubishi Mirage will come with the industry-leading 5-years/100 000km warranty and extended roadside assistance.

The launch date of the Mitsubishi Mirage is still to be announced, but if you are in the market for a smaller car that is easy on the pocket and fun to drive, please keep in touch Group1 Mitsubishi to find out when you can test drive the first one.
